Letitia Wright is set to star in The Silent Twins, which is based on the real story of June and Jennifer Gibbons, mysterious twins with a complex history. Tamara Lawrance will also star.

The Gibbons’ story is as strange as it is tragic. Born in the West Indies and raised in Wales, the two girls developed their own language and only spoke to each other. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the girls would become catatonic when separated. Together, the girls would engage in criminal and violent activity until they were placed in Broadmoor, a high-security psychiatric hospital. Though the family insisted that the girls could lead normal lives, the Gibbons twins were studied by doctors, leading the girls to hatch a tragic plan for a chance at normalcy–for one twin to die so the other could live. Jennifer decided she would die by suicide, but the actual cause of death has remained a mystery.

The Silent Twins is the first stand-alone English-language film from Polish director Agnieszka Smoczynska. Kindred Spirit, 42 and Madants are producing with Protagonist Pictures distributing the film internationally.

Wright has a packed upcoming schedule, starring in the Murder on the Orient Express sequel Death on the Nile, Steve McQueen’s television series Small Axe and Hold Back the Stars. The latter two projects also star John Boyega.
