Tom Holland opened up about his relationship with Zendaya being in the public eye. The couple has tried to keep most of it to themselves despite each having their own passionate fanbases.
“Our relationship is something that we are incredibly protective of, and we want to keep as sacred as possible,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview. “We don’t think that we owe it to anyone, it’s our thing, and it has nothing to do with our careers.”
The 27-year-old actor is currently promoting his role in the upcoming TV show The Crowded Room. Zendaya wasn’t present at the premiere, and Holland explained why.
“She’s visiting her grandma,” he said. “We’re two very busy people, and we’re on the opposite sides of the world at this present time, so she couldn’t come.”
Holland and Zendaya have kept their relationship private ever since they started dating after meeting on the set of the Spiderman franchise in 2017. The couple made their status public after paparazzi photographed them kissing in 2021. Since then, each of their public appearances has gone viral. Most recently, Holland celebrated his birthday by scuba diving alongside Zendaya in the Caribbean Sea.
“It’s crazy what you can do nowadays that will get you trending,” Holland said.
“The thing is,” he added, “I love my job. I love my friends. I’m not worried about what people think. The only thing I really care about is how I feel. And right now, I feel really happy and excited for people to see this show.”
