Although Warner Bros.’ The Batman isn’t slated to arrive in theaters until 2021, Big Little Lies actress Zoë Kravitz is spilling details on her portrayal of feline femme fatale Selina Kyle, Catwoman.

In an interview with Variety at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, Kravitz revealed her interpretation of Catwoman and what makes her most excited to portray the famed comic book character.

“I think Catwoman, Selina Kyle represents really strong femininity, and I’m excited to dive into that,” Kravitz said. She added, “I think femininity represents power, and I think it’s a different kind of power than masculine power. That’s something that’s really interesting about Batman and Catwoman. I think Batman represents a very kind of masculine power, and Catwoman represents very feminine power — slightly more complicated, and softer, too. I like the idea that you can be soft, you can be gentle and still be very powerful and still be very dangerous.”

Catwoman has been portrayed by many actresses throughout the years. Eartha Kitt portrayed  Catwoman in the Batman TV series from 1967 to 1968. Halle Berry portrayed a version of Catwoman in a standalone film in 2004. Anne Hathaway then took on the role in the Christopher Nolan film The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.

However, Kravitz revealed that Michelle Pfeiffer’s portrayal of Catwoman in the Tim Burton film Batman Returns inspires her the most.

“I was never into a lot of comic books, but that world was always really intriguing to me,” she said. “And then, of course, Michelle Pfeiffer — her performance has always been super inspiring to me. It just felt iconic.”
