Neo-soul artist Erykah Badu has always been in her own lane regarding fashion, so it only makes sense that she’s finally decided to tap into the industry with a couture shoe line.

On Sunday, Badu took to Instagram to announce the line, which is still unnamed.

The “Window Seat” singer is known for her out-of-the-box style when it comes to fashion. And during Paris Fashion Week, the neo-soul icon was spotted on the scene with something different on her feet.

Badu sported a new style of shoes that were hard to miss, as they looked like the tentacles of an octopus.

She wore a red pair at Rick Owens’ fashion show and a gray version while she walked around the streets of Paris.

The unique garments are actually custom leg warmers, not shoes as Badu has worn them.

The creative wear was designed by up-and-coming fashion student Myah Hasbany, who is currently studying fashion at Central Saint Martins school in London. Before attending CSM, the designer graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, a performing and visual arts high school in Dallas.

Badu, a Dallas native, also attended the same high school and has always supported the school’s students.

According to the Dallas Observer, this is how Hasbany caught the legend’s eye. The “Tyrone” songstress has also worn Hasbany’s full-body pieces, hats and sweaters over the last couple of years as well.

About three months ago, Badu posted a photo of herself sporting a blue ombré pair for a performance she had in Switzerland.

Badu doesn’t have a set date for when fans can expect her shoes to be available for purchase, but this is proof that fashion will always be objective — and that originality will always trump typical concepts when one strives to make a statement.
