Blavity is doing the Essence Music Fest! Our roving reporters are on the ground ready to give you the inside scoop and all the tea from the Blavity House.

After two plane trips and an extended mid-air delay in a Louisianan summer storm, I finally landed in New Orleans. Attending Essence Festival has been on my bucket list since I was a teenager. When I found out that Blavity would be hosting a house for creative millennial women, I just knew that I had to attend.

Before I could even start my Essence Festival journey, I had to make sure my hair was on fleek. I used the StyleSeat app to book an appointment at The Chair Hair and Nail Studio. My stylist, Keysha Dennis, was able to hook me up with a humidity-proof and funky updo.

Blavity booked a sweet house for us to spend the weekend in. The ambiance of New Orleans is magical and unlike anything I’ve experienced. I’m excited to be in a city that’s filled with so much history, culture, food and music. Mostly it’s been great to explore a new city with over 20 amazing women of color who come from different walks of life.
