A family is left with more questions than answers after a mother of two was gunned down during a traffic stop.

Florida Highway Patrol trooper Ronald Melendez-Bonilla claims he feared for his life when he shot and killed Latasha Walton on March 12, reports CBS Miami. The President of the Miami-Dade Police Benevolent Association (PBA) says the trooper shot Walton because she accelerated her car toward him.

Cellphone video shows Walton’s white BMW jump a curb and slowly come to a stop after shots rang out.

Attorney Sue Ann Robinson doesn’t believe the shots were justified.

“It’s one thing if he’s going to justify the first bullet but then how do you justify the second and then the third and then the fourth and then the fifth and then the sixth,” said Robinson.

The grief from Walton’s family was painfully palatable as her sister described their sorrow during a press conference with civil rights attorney Ben Crump, according to NBC Miami.

"What this officer has done has broken me, her two children, my entire family," said Allison Wright. "They are so empty. They are so lost."

Crump wants the Department of Justice to take over the case.

"The video of this shooting has sent shock waves across the nation," Crump said. "All parties concerned here seek one thing and one thing only — a full, fair and complete investigation by the Department of Justice — nothing less will do."
