During the Ferguson protests of 2014, Edward Crawford was featured in a Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph throwing a tear gas canister— that iconic picture made rounds during the media circuit and even appeared in school textbooks.

According to police, the 27-year old father of four died overnight due to a self-inflicted gunshot. Crawford’s father, Edward Sr. doesn’t believe the shooting was intentional but discharged accidentally.  "I don't believe it was a suicide,"  he told the St. Louis Post Dispatch. "He was wonderful, great, always in a good mood," the father said. "He just got a new apartment and was training for a new job."

The case of Edward Crawford’s death is currently being investigated by the district detectives.
