Hmm… I don't know folks. It may be too early to say, so I'll wait for a first full trailer that shows much more footage, hoping it'll impress me far more than this teaser does.

But, damn, as I've said countless times on this site before, your first trailer is maybe the most important one. You know what they say about first impressions…

CG world-building and CG characters!! As much I embrace the technology, it can at times be a distraction, especially when the worlds and characters created don't look as real as they need to be believable.

But, as I said, I'll wait to see more. It looks like they are going for something epic, so let's hope they deliver.

The sci-fi/adventure project is titled After Earth, with father/son pairing Will Smith and Jaden Smith, starring, directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

Full synopsis reads:

In After Earth, one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity's escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind's new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (played by Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (played by Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai's craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.

Zoe Kravitz and Sophie Okonedo co-star by the way, as sister/daughter and mother/wife respectively.

Stephen Gaghan (TrafficSyriana) was brought on to polish up Shaymalan's script before shooting began (a very good idea IMHO), and Columbia Pictures is shooting for a summer 2013 release.
