George Tillman Jr. is in talks to direct Fox 2000’s adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ novel The Longest Ride, which tells the story of 2 couples who could not be more unlike, especially in their present situations…

Ira Levinson is 91 years old, injured and stranded, perhaps forever, after a car crash; yet comforted by visions of his beloved wife Ruth, who died nine years before. Not far away is Wake Forest senior Sophia Danko, enraptured head over heels with an equally enthralled cowboy named Luke. In this cinematic novel, Nicholas Sparks weaves together the stories of these two starkly different pairs as only he could. 

The two stories, happening concurrently, eventually converge. 

Published in the fall of 2013, the novel was a bestseller in hardcover.

Tillman’s adaptation will be scripted by Craig Bolotin, and produced by Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill.

This just might be Tillman’s follow-up to last year’s indie drama The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete, which Codeblack/Lionsgate released last fall.

Also on his upcoming slate is a second Miles Davis which will be loosely based on Gregory Davis’ book, Dark Magus: The Jekyll and Hyde Life of Miles Davis (Gregory Davis being Miles Davis’ eldest son). 
The plan for Tillman’s project, which will be called Miles Davis, Prince of Darkness, is to produce a more conventional biopic (the producers previously mentioned Walk The Line and Ray as potential models that they’ll follow), when compared to Don Cheadle’s more experimental Miles Davis project.
