The internet and celebrities simply don't mesh sometimes. So when singer Halsey, who is of mixed race, posted a rare photo of herself rocking her natural hair, there were the "yass, I live" commentators and then there were the trolls.

The 23-year-old sported a bathrobe and her jet black curls with the caption: "new growth, new growth; all these fades I outgrew."

The "Bad At Love" singer's natural locs were applauded by some fans.

One Twitter user compared her to Annie from the 1982 musical. Yahoo notes a few Instagram commenters accused the singer of cultural appropriation, writing "Afro? Cultural appropriation!!" and #cultural appropriation."

But Halsey, who'd reportedly been growing her hair out for a year, didn't seem too fazed by the hate.

Halsey has made headlines before for calling out hotels who carry grooming products which only cater to white people

"I’ve been traveling for years now and it’s been so frustrating that the hotel toiletry industry entirely alienates people of color," Halsey wrote in a now-deleted tweet. "I can’t use this perfumed watered down white people shampoo. Neither can 50% of ur customers. Annoying."

Prior to that, she's also admitted that despite being biracial, she feels like a black woman. Additionally, last July, she remarked that rapper Iggy Azalea was a moron and accused the artist of cultural appropriation.
