Shaka King's feature film debut, Newlyweeds, will make its worldwide debut at the Sundance Film Festival this month.
Now, some may think that just because the film got into Sundance (the premiere film festival in these United States), the work is all done; it's smooth sailing from here; Shaka's film will debut, make a splash, get picked up for distribution, open on 3000 screens later in the year, win lots of acclaim, do well at the box office, and Shaka will sign a 3-picture deal with Sony Pictures worth millions.
RIIIIGHT!
The film has to first get through the circus that is Sundance; and to do that, and do it well, money will have to be spent! And that's were YOU come in.
Shaka has set up a Kickstarter campaign to raise $10,000 which will go towards getting the film ready for its premiere at Sundance in about 2 weeks.
The money will be used for the following: – Color correction; Sound design; and soundtrack.

As a recap… a strong cast leads Newlyweeds, described by the filmmaker as a gritty, stoner romantic dramedy that stars Amari Cheatom and newcomer Trae Harris, in addition to Isiah Whitlock, Colman Domingo, Tonya Pinkins, Diane Neal, Adrian Martinez and Hassan Johnson.
Its synopsis reads:
Spray painted on the side of Lyle's van is a gargantuan, ejaculating, penis. This is what his community thinks of him. He is a repo man. His sole companion is his girlfriend Nina, an unemployed, capricious, dreamer who lives with her overbearing mother. When mom smells reefer on Nina's towel she gives her the boot, right into Lyle's apartment. But what should be a match made in stoner heaven turns into a love triangle gone awry when Nina starts to suspect that Lyle needs weeds more than he needs her.
The movie is produced by Jim Wareck, Michael Matthews, Shaka King and Gbenga Akinnagbe (making his producing debut).
