“Too soon! Don’t do it! Reconsider! Read some liter-ature on the subject…” — International Players Anthem

Serial monogamists. You know one. You’ve met one. Perhaps you are one.

They enter long-term relationships in quick successions. They’ve got exes on exes on exes and fiend for love like it’s a drug. Here’s the best part: serial monogamists are 20-somethings who have barely had the time to get to know themselves because they’ve been occupied since age 15. There are no rules regarding the right period of time that should lapse in between relationships. However, it is imperative that we give ourselves time to recover. Here are three ways to evade being labeled a serial monogamist:

  1. Fitness Challenges!

Get in the gym. Make some “get right, get tight” goals, and don’t stop until you reach them! Sweating out your angst is a great way to recoup after a long and tumultuous relationship. It helps you boost your mental and physical self-esteem and creates consistency that might even occupy the void your relationship used to fill. Date the gym; at the very least, it’s a reciprocal relationship!
  2. Schedule weekly girls’ nights.

Hanging out with your single girlfriends reinforces the fact that single isn’t all that bad! Single ladies engage in a multitude of conversations that boost morale. It’s a surefire way to make you feel included and sane without relying on a man or the male perspective.
  3. Self-reflection is a must.

That doesn’t mean sitting and thinking about your break-up or lamenting over love lost. Write, sing, travel, take photographs. Incorporate a hobby into your weekly life that makes you reflect on your growth and your future aspirations. The best medicine for a break-up is realizing just how amazing you are!

Serial monogamy might have been your M.O., but make it no more!

Do you. Be you. Love you.

No one can embrace you better than yourself.
