Ice Cube and his son O'Shea Jackson Jr.Not wasting any time, after this weekend’s blowout box office opening for "Straight Outta Compton," Ice Cube and his son, who played him in the film, O’Shea Jackson Jr., are both going to appear on screen together (we may not be able to tell them apart!), co-starring in a Lionsgate action-thriller.

Titled simply “April 29, 1992,” the project, which will be produced by Will Packer (who also exec-produced "Straight Outta Compton"), will follow an ex-criminal (played by Cube) who has to save his son (played by his son) when his business is looted by a group of punks who hope to steal an expensive amount of platinum.

Given the title – "April 29, 1992" – I can only assume that the film will be set during the L.A. riots of 1992, which followed the Rodney King verdict (April 29 – May 4, 1992).

South African filmmaker Donovan Marsh is set to direct the film from a script penned by Sascha Penn.

A February 2016 production start date is being eyed.

Cube can be seen next in “Ride Along 2” with Kevin Hart, the sequel to last year’s box office hit. It opens in January. Meanwhile, "April 29, 1992" will be his son’s second feature film role.
