A Jamaican man collected his lottery winnings in a Halloween costume.
The man, known only as A. Campbell, collected his prize in a Scream mask, dark clothing and leather gloves to maintain his anonymity, according to St. Lucia News. He won 158.4 million in Jamaican dollars from Super Lotto, which is about $1.1 million. He won the prize in November.
“I found out [I won] the same night,” he told the Jamaica Star. “Normally, I would write down the numbers from the [televised] draw, eat and then go and check my numbers. I looked at my ticket [that night] and ran into my bathroom and said: ‘I won! I won!’”
He didn’t claim his money until Tuesday due to an illness, according to St. Lucia News.
“From the day I found out that I won, I've been sick,” he added.
"My head hurt me for three days because I was thinking so much. [Wondering] if what I've been longing for really come true. I had a belly ache for two weeks, sometimes I feel so much pain I forgot that I had won.”
The lottery commission eventually published ads in newspapers urging the winner to come forward.
Even though Campbell is still healing, he already has plans for his new fortune.
"I want to get a house, I want to get a nice house,” he said. “I haven't found it yet, but I'll be looking for one soon."
Campbell isn’t the first winner to don a disguise after winning the lottery.
As Blavity previously reported, a woman identified as N. Gray wore an emoji mask to collect her J$180 million earnings last June.
Like Campbell, the woman walked in with plans for her money.
"God allowed this to happen. I am elated, because I was drowning in debt. I started buying Super Lotto in January, and I normally choose random numbers," Gray told The Gleaner.
"I am employed, but I am not necessarily going to leave my job. Now I've won, I want to clear my debt, invest, and I want to do some travelling. I would like to construct a community centre for the youths in my community, so they can engage in something productive; somewhere where they can do information technology."
Super Lotto is played across the Caribbean. There have been 17 Jamaican winners.
