During Jamie Foxx’s opening monologue for the BET Awards on Sunday, he raved about “Black Panther,” its successes and originality. Foxx highlighted the fact that “Black Panther” has become the third largest grossing movie in the United States, and the number one grossing movie in the Marvel Universe.

“A black man did that!” Foxx said of the movie's director Ryan Coogler during the show. “A black man from the Bay Area!”

Michael B. Jordan, who was sitting in the front row, clapped for his director and friend. Little did he know Foxx would soon after invite him on stage.

Foxx asked that Jordan recite “that line,” without specifying exactly which, but everyone sitting at home knew exactly which line he was talking about.

Jordan took the stage. “You sure?” He asked before taking a breath, looking in the camera, and announcing to the black entertainment audience:

“Bury me in the ocean with my ancestors who jumped from the ships, because they knew death was better than bondage.”
