After the release of Janet Jackson's A&E and Lifetime documentary, Janet, the singer is seeing a spike on streaming platforms.
Jackson's 1986 album Control ranked No. 10 on iTunes, and Rhythm Nation 1814, which was released in 1989, peaked at No. 1. Additionally, her album Janet was ranked No. 5, the Grape Juice reports.
“As a testament to Janet Jackson’s legacy, her album Control rose to #1 on the iTunes US pop chart following the premiere of the doc,” A&E and Lifetime said in an announcement, according to the New York Daily News. “Currently, three of her albums — Control, Design of a Decade and Rhythm Nation — have entered the Top 10 on the iTunes US Chart.”
Starting in 2017, a documentary film crew recorded the Grammy-winning pop star for five years, according to the film's introduction. Jackson served as the project's executive producer alongside her manager and brother Randy Jackson, CNN reports.
The two-part documentary premiered on Jan. 28 and concluded on Jan. 29, reaching more than 15.7 million viewers on Lifetime and A&E, according to Variety.
It gave fans an exclusive look into Jackson's career and personal life, including her relationships.
In 2021, the iconic singer and actress posted a video on Instagram expressing her gratitude for her fans for making her album Control reach No. 1 on Apple's Top 40 U.S. Pop Album chart.
"I was at home just the other day by myself, and I began to cry. I was crying because I was so thankful for all that God has blessed me with, all that he has given me, and I'm so thankful for him being in my life," she said at the time in an Instagram post.
"I'm so thankful for all of you being in my life. You're so special to me, and I want to thank all of you for making Control No. 1 once again. After 35 years, never in a million years would I think that this would happen. I really appreciate you, and I love you so, so much," she said.
The documentary was also the top-rated cable program for viewers 25 to 54 years old.
