Over the Thanksgiving holiday, Jay Z decided to grace the nation with three short films for his songs “Legacy,” “Smile,” and “Marcy Me” from the album "4:44" on Tidal.

The New York rapper and business mogul took the world by storm by getting personal on his latest album, and the recent visuals don't disappoint.

In "Legacy," Hov recruited Hollywood heavy hitters Susan Sarandon and Ron Pearlman to portray the  Warden and Mr. Carter respectfully.

Actors Edi Gathegi, Jonathan Tucker, Emile Hirsch, Jesse Williams and others navigate incarceration as the President’s Men, all the while Carter tries to leave a lasting impression on the innocent men alongside him. 

"Smile," on the other hand, is an extremely personal film about Jay Z's mother. Set in the 1970s, the short film takes viewers back to a time when Gloria Carter fell in love with her female neighbor.

The real Gloria Carter is also featured in this short film reciting the same poem that is on the track which covers her struggle hiding her sexuality and eventually coming out to live in her truth. 

“But life is short, and it’s time to be free / Love who you love because life isn’t guaranteed / Smile, ” she ends the film.

"Marcy Me" is the shortest out of the trio but it is just as powerful. The film, heavily influenced by the Black Lives Matter movement, shows the ramifications of police surveillance in poor black neighborhoods. Jay's old neighborhood of Bed Stuy is a symbol of black life in America.
