R&B artist Lyfe Jennings went to social media on Sunday to speak about a strange interaction he had with Jeffrey Dahmer while the two were imprisoned in an Ohio jail in the 1990s.

In an Instagram video, Jennings said he was cleaning the prison floors one day when Dahmer asked him to sing.

“I was a porter. In case you don’t know, a porter is a cat who cleans the railings, the floor, mops, and sweeps,” Jennings said. “While I be sweeping up, I be singing. One particular day I walked past … and Jeffrey said ‘Hey, hey, hey, is that you down there singing?”

Dahmer then confessed to loving R&B and made a song request, according to Jennings.

“You would never guess what song he asked me did I know: Mint Condition’s “Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes).” And I sang that record,” the R&B artist said. “He beat it on the door and all this stuff.”

Jennings served time from 1992 to 2002 after being convicted for arson, CBS News reports. Dahmer, a serial killer, was killed in prison in 1994, according to Radar.

People responded with criticism after Jennings shared his encounter with Dahmer.

“See this is EXACTLY what the victims’ family and loved ones mean when they say STOP making these movies and series about him,” an Instagram user wrote. “People are sensationalizing Dahmer and are desensitized to the horror and gravity of what his actions were.”

“Nothing to brag about,” another person said. “I understand why these victims’ families was mad. Y’all sitting here trying to make this man famous like he ain’t K!ll people.”

“Lemme get this straight, you took a request from a yt man that was incarcerated for killing black & brown men?” a third person added.

On Monday, Jennings hopped back on Instagram to clap back at those who accused him of lying about the experience and chastised him for allegedly agreeing to sing for the serial killer.

“But something happened with the transportation, which is normal, so he stayed longer in max. But he never came to Ohio right??” he wrote. “Lol nobody gotta lie to yall yall still playin rkelly at ya kids pool party but mad at me smh.”

Do you think Jennings should have kept this memory to himself?
