Jenifer Lewis used her Emmy outfit to spread a message.

Lewis stepped onto the red carpet wearing Nike from head to toe to support their partnership with Colin Kaepernick. She wore a black and red top with Nike written across it in white and a bedazzled swoosh logo. She finished the look with black pants and a pair of Air Max tennis shoes. The Black-ish star’s afro complimented her daring outfit.

“I am wearing Nike to applaud them for supporting Colin Kaepernick and his protest against racial injustice and police brutality,” she told Variety.

Lewis said she came up with the idea to wear Nike while pondering what she could do to openly support Kaepernick. She also urged other companies to take a similar stand.

“What can I do? What can I do that’s meaningful? I’ll wear Nike. I’ll wear Nike to say thank you. Thank you for leading the resistance! We need more corporate America to stand up also,” she explained.

When asked what she would say to the former 49ers quarterback, Lewis decided on unwavering gratitude.

“Thank you, Colin. Thank you for all that you do. Thank you for being brave. Thank you for being courageous. Thank you for taking a knee. Thank you,” Lewis said.
