Jonathan “Hovain” Hylton, a prominent and beloved music industry executive and manager, has passed away. The heartbreaking news was shared by Hylton’s family to his social media accounts on Saturday, Nov. 26.

In a statement from the Hylton family, it was confirmed that the hip-hop mogul passed away in his home on Friday, Nov. 25. No further information about his death has been publicly disclosed.

“He was a beloved and devoted father, husband, son, brother, and a proud Brooklyn representative,” the statement continued. “We’d like to thank all of his close friends for all of the love and support that you have shown during this difficult time. We ask that you all continue to keep his family in your prayers and respect their privacy at this time.”

Affectionally known as Hovain, Hylton’s sudden death has rocked the music industry and is a significant loss for New York and the many people who valued his contributions to hip-hop.

The Brooklyn native’s early days in business began under the guidance of late boxing promoter Butch Lewis.

“Working with Butch showed me how to be self-made,” said Hylton. “Butch was the ultimate businessman. He always closed the deal and never made any excuses.”

Hylton worked as a boxing promoter and then partnered with music executive Randall “Sickamore” Medford to begin throwing hip-hop shows at New York City’s The Factory. Their shows hosted legendary acts such as Curren$y and Wiz Khalifa, and it was clear that the two had a pure love for hip-hop culture

Eventually, Hylton went on to establish his own management company, Hovain Hylton Management, where he hosted all-star talents such as Young Lito, Lloyd Banks, and hip-hop journalist Rob Markman.

His multifaceted success as a manager, A&R, label owner, and above all else, as a father and husband earned him high esteem, as did his innate intelligence.

Hovain’s resume includes work with everyone from platinum-selling artists like YFN Lucci, Flipp Dinero, and T-Pain, to New York’s heavyweights like Cam’Ron, Jim Jones, and Styles P. 

His passion for music and hip-hop was never one-sided.  From gritty hip-hop to some of the more modern vibes of the current era, he never hated, just appreciated.

His prominence in the hip-hop and R&B industries was recognized by Billboard, which included him on its Power player list.

Since the news of his passing began to spread, the hip-hop community has come together to share their condolences. 

Many people took to Instagram to express their grief and love for him.

“Love you brother 4 ever,” commented Fat Joe.

“Devastating.  I cannot believe this such a brilliant mind and kind soul,” said Bridget Kelly.  Hovain was recently a guest on her podcast with co-host Mandii.

There was no doubt in his mind that God was real, and daily, Hovain would tweet gratitude to Him for the gift of life.

Hovain recently celebrated his birthday on November 18.

Hovain’s golden reputation came without compromising his principles, and this is why reverence for him comes naturally.
