Kamala Harris Spearheads Democrats' Effort To Remove Trump Senior Adviser And Purported White Nationalist Stephen Miller From Office
Democrats sent a letter to the White House Monday calling on the president to fire Miller.
Senator Kamala Harris is leading an effort to remove Donald Trump's senior adviser, Stephen Miller from the White House.
According to HuffPost, Harris and a group of Democratic senators sent a letter to the White House Monday calling on the President to fire Miller. The Democrats' request comes after The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) published Miller's leaked emails on November 12, showing the senior adviser's effort to collaborate with white nationalist media.

“We write to demand the immediate removal of Stephen Miller as your adviser,” the Democrats said in a letter obtained by HuffPost.
The leaked emails were sent to Breitbart News in 2015 and 2016 while Miller worked as an aide to then Senator Jeff Sessions, in an effort to shape the media's coverage of issues related to people of color, SPLC reported.
Some of the ideologies expressed in the emails reportedly included an executive order banning immigration from five Muslim countries and the idea of separating families at refugee facilities.
“The Muslim ban targeted individuals of color and caused chaos at U.S. airports around the country, wreaking havoc on the lives of countless individuals and families,” Harris' letter states. “The family separation policy tore children from their families, resulting in widely reported mistreatment and human rights abuses of immigrants in detention facilities nationwide. The rescission of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) has thrown the lives of hundreds of thousands of DREAMers into chaos and instability.”
The leaked emails show Miller urging Breitbart staff to read white nationalist websites for inspiration, while he also shows disappointment about Amazon ending the sell of Confederate flags, SPLC reported.
According to The Hill, more than 100 house democrats have called for Miller to resign in the last month, while 50 civil rights groups have also demanded for Trump to take action against his adviser.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also started an online petition demanding his resignation.
"A white nationalist is currently serving as a top adviser to the President of the United States. In 2019," Ocasio-Cortez wrote. "According to leaked emails recovered by the Southern Poverty Law Center, Stephen Miller has repeatedly peddled white nationalist conspiracy theories, pitched nativist stories to Breitbart reporters, and worked together with right-wing leaders like Richard Spencer."
Rep. Ilhan Omar expressed her thoughts on twitter in November, saying “Stephen Miller is a white nationalist. And now we have the emails to prove it. This type of racism and hatred has no place in our government. ”
As I said earlier this year: Stephen Miller is a white nationalist.— Ilhan Omar (@IlhanMN) November 12, 2019
And now we have the emails to prove it.
This type of racism and hatred has no place in our government.

According to Vice, the Democrats who have signed the latest letter include 2020 presidential contenders Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker and Amy Klobuchar.
“Mr. Miller has also reportedly advanced your administration’s efforts to slash refugee admissions, limit asylum access for vulnerable populations, prevent extensions of Temporary Protected Status to those granted safety from humanitarian crises abroad, and disqualify immigrants who use public resources from receiving certain immigration benefits,” the Democrats' letter states.
According to the letter, Miller is motivated by white supremacy instead of national security.
“Mr. Miller is unfit to serve in any capacity at the White House, let alone as a senior policy adviser,” the Democrats said.
