It’s been a rough couple of days for Kanye West. His antisemitic comments cost him his agent, tons of brand partnerships, billions of dollars and, some would argue, his reputation. As Blavity reported earlier today, the rapper’s latest loss came as news spread that his newly opened Christian private school, Donda Academy, would be closing for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year amid recent backlash. Parents were notified of the closure via email from assistant principal Jason Angell on Wednesday night.
“Dear Donda Academy Families — We hope this email finds you well. First we would like to express our gratitude for the community of families and scholars that Donda Academy brought together. However, at the direction of our Founder, Donda Academy will close for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year effective immediately, Thursday, October 27th. THERE IS NO SCHOOL TOMORROW,” the email read.
West himself seemed to confirm the closure on Instagram, writing “my school is being shut down” in a post that has since been deleted.
However, hours after the news spread, TMZ reported that parents and students received another email stating that Donda will be back “with a vengeance.”
“Join us tomorrow morning in worship for the return of Donda Academy. With the help of our parents and community, we are back and returning with a vengeance!” the email stated. “The children of Donda are going to change the world. Apologies for the late email! See you bright and early!”
The future of Donda Academy is confusing to say the least. In another Instagram post, West made things even more confusing, insinuating that his Simi Valley, California-based school could be making its way to Texas.
In the post, which is still on his page as of this article’s publishing, Kanye West posted a photo of 50 Cent with a caption that read, “We got Donda school designs we need to build with 50 in Houston.”

50 Cent made the move to Houston in 2021, and it appears Kanye West wants to join him.

What this means for the students of Donda Academy in California remains to be seen.
