Not long after the announcement of the release of her sixth studio album "Reputation," which dropped on Nov. 10, Kanye West fans did not hesitate to harp on the fact that the release falls on the 10-year anniversary of the Chicago rapper's mother's passing. Donda West devastatingly passed away Nov. 10, 2007; amongst many things, Ye commemorated her life with his single "Hey Mama."

A source close to Taylor says that there was absolutely no correlation for the release, although it is rather ironic considering the history between Swift and West. Fans decided that the gesture by Swift was ill-advised and opted to commemorate the date in their own way. One fan decided to create a Facebook page encouraging Yeezy fans to play "Hey Mama" on the day of Swift's album release. Reports from The Ringer state that Spotify streams rose from 23.6 to 24.3 million, a roughly 700,000 stream increase over a 24-hour span. 

The classic single did not rise to any chart-topping stats due to multiple streams being from repeated plays, yet Swift's numbers are on the rise. According to Billboard, "Reputation" sold about 700,000 copies in the U.S. on its first day. 

One source notes that there is a lesson to be learned about choosing your battles wisely. Complex says there is no stopping Swifties after they've waited three years for a new project. However, Yeezy fans may beg to differ.
