After his time in the league, dropping skyhooks on all of his enemies, Abdul-Jabbar found another hobby to mine for career ideas – the world of Sherlock Holmes. In retirement, he’s gone on to write several nonfiction and children’s books, as well as a regular column for Time magazine. But his first novel in fiction (co-authored by Anna Waterhouse) featured the protagonist Mycroft Holmes, Sherlock’s elder brother. The book was released in September of 2015 and Kareem the Dream went out on tour to promote and talk about the title every chance he could take.

Now, he’s back to turn his novel into a comic book series, Mycroft Holmes and the Apocalypse Handbook, with the help of novelist Raymond Obstfeld and artist Joshua Cassara. The first run of Mycroft will only be five comics long, and according to Kareem’s publisher, Titan Comics, the first issue will be available for purchase in stores and online by August 3rd of this year.

The series will follow the protagonist Mycroft Holmes as he solves extremely complicated mysteries and chases down a mad man whose intentions are to take over the world with highly advanced technology. His younger brother Sherlock is also set to make a cameo or two throughout the story.

What do you think about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s Mycroft Holmes and the Apocalypse Handbook – will you give it a read? Tell us in the comments.
