Keke Palmer is showing a little love and appreciation for Taylor Swift‘s songwriting skill, calling her one of the best.

In the latest episode of her podcast, Baby, This Is Keke Palmer, the actor explained her thoughts on the “Shake It Off” singer, who’s currently on the road for her 52-date Eras Tour, which celebrates all 10 studio albums that she’s released since her 2006 debut. The Nope star made it clear that Swift beat all the odds set against her when it came to her singing career.

“Taylor Swift. She has done it, baby. She did it,” the new mother said on her podcast. “When everybody counted her out, I mean, whether you listen to her music or not, mama is a skilled writer. Her pen is lethal, let’s understand that. Her pen is lethal, honey.”

Palmer explained that she was a Swiftie, the nickname of Swift’s fanbase, when she was a teenager but then moved away from her music as she got older. “Mama had me at, you know, ‘Our song is the slamming screen door,'” said the NAACP Image Award winner while singing the now-iconic tune’s chorus. “She had me there, you know what I’m saying? And then I was like, then I kind of got off, I was like, ‘Oh no, I’m not, I don’t listen to that.’ That was when I was a teenager.”

In May, Palmer posted an Instagram video of herself jamming out to the country-pop singer’s song “Karma” in the car. Inspired by the words of the song, she shared an encouraging message about success being the best revenge. “It’s always going to be miss Swift’s lyricism for me. It’s always some fluffy vibes with weighted ass sentiment!” part of her lengthy caption read. “Woke up this morning living in the fact that I am always gonna be good no matter who has preyed on me! You know you can sleep well at night despite what may have gotten the best of you, because your side of the street is clean!”

She concluded the video by writing, “Rest easy knowing they can never get away with the bad energy they threw your way because KARMA IS QUEEN! They can eat it. 😘 KARMA IS YOU GETTING EVERYTHING YOU WANT!!!”
