LeBron James has a special plan for the Class of 2020.

According to The Associated Press, the NBA superstar has organized a one-hour TV program for high school seniors who will miss out on their graduation ceremonies because of the coronavirus.

“I wanted to help create a show that looked and felt very different from traditional specials. Something that spoke to kids in a different way. These kids worked so hard to graduate and what is happening to them is truly unfair,” James told The AP. “I hope we can give them and their families something cool that makes their accomplishment feel special.”

“Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020,” will be broadcast simultaneously on NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox on May 16. The program will also air on several other digital platforms, including TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Complex Networks and PeopleTV.

The star-studded event will feature Malala Yousafzai, the Jonas Brothers, Bad Bunny, Yara Shahidi, Ben Platt, Lena Waithe and H.E.R. Other celebrities who will take part in the event include Megan Rapinoe, YBN Cordae, Chika, Charli D’Amelio, Dixie D’Amelio, Loren Gray, Brandan “Bmike” Odums, Henry Platt and Jonah Platt.

“These students have worked incredibly hard for this and there’s no way we can let that go unrecognized,” James said in a statement. “While this won’t be the graduation experience they were supposed to get, we hope we can still give them something special because they deserve it.”

The LeBron James Family Foundation is partnering with XQ Institute and The Entertainment Industry Foundation to organize the event. The programming was put together by high school students and teachers, according to The AP.

"As coronavirus has prompted the cancellation of high school graduation ceremonies across the country, The Entertainment Industry Foundation, The LeBron James Family Foundation, XQ Institute, and a broad coalition of partners are coming together to pay tribute to millions of high school seniors, their extraordinary teachers, and their families, as we rally everyone around a message of hope and unity," the organizers stated.

In a similar event, Oprah Winfrey will lead a commencement address on Facebook for the Class of 2020 on May 15, as Blavity previously reported. Other well-known names such as Simone Biles, Lil Nas X, Jennifer Garner and Miley Cyrus will join Oprah as part of the ceremony.

Some seniors are also hoping to get Barack Obama to deliver a national commencement address.

"Hi @BarackObama! Like most high school/college seniors, I’m saddened by the loss of milestone events, prom & graduation," one senior wrote on Twitter. "In an unprecedented time, it would give us great comfort to hear your voice. We ask you to consider giving a national commencement speech to the class of 2020."

“This is a bittersweet time for the Class of 2020,” Marne Levine, a Facebook vice president, stated. “They are commencing at a time of great uncertainty. But graduating is a tremendous achievement, and worth pausing to celebrate even in these circumstances.”
