nullUniversal Home Video has announced that they will be releasing the 1999 Eddie Murphy/Martin Lawrence comedy Life on blu-ray DVD, as part of its ongoing Universal 100th Anniversary Blu-Ray series.

Directed by the late Ted Demme, the talented nephew of director Jonathan Demme, who died suddenly of a heart attack in 2002 while playing a basketball game, the film proved the old adage that you can make humor out of anything, since the film deals with the serious and downbeat premise of two friends from Harlem who are falsely accused of murder and sentenced to life in a Southern prison.

With a lot of humor, and some serious moments as well, the film chronicles the relationship of the two friends, as it's constantly tested through the years – the hardships and tremendous social changes.

This was also the first film that, at least for me, revealed what an incredibly good actor Murphy was, especially during the later scenes when he plays an older inmate.

The Blu-ray DVD comes out on July 27th; here's the trailer.
