Actress Lisa Bonet, known for her role as Denise Huxtable on The Cosby Show, and then its spin-off, A Different World, usually stays away from the media spotlight. But in a recent interview with Net-a-Porter, she says that comedian Bill Cosby gave off a negative vibe.
The recent fashion magazine profile of Bonet ran the gamut, covering aspects of her personal life and her time with Cosby in the late 1980s and early 1990s. There was tension between the two because Bonet wanted to pursue more adult roles while still on The Cosby Show.
Speaking on the serial sexual assault allegations against Cosby, Bonet told Net-a-Porter that she felt something was off about the comedian. “There was just energy. And that type of sinister, shadow energy cannot be concealed,” she said.
Although there was a bad vibe around him, she said she was not aware of any allegations of wrongdoing while they worked together.
“If I had anything more to reveal then it would have happened a long time ago," she said. "That’s my nature. The truth will set you free.”
Cosby has been accused by almost 50 women of sexual misconduct and rape.
According to The Wrap, the allegations go as far back as 1965 and well into the early 2000s. A key witness in the current case against Cosby is former Temple University employee Andrea Constand, who claims that Cosby assaulted her at his residence in 2004. Others accusing Cosby of misconduct include models Beverly Johnson and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit actress Michelle Hurd who claimed Cosby touched her inappropriately in the mid-'90s.
Bonet also had an interesting response when asked if the slew of allegations had tainted her memory of those years: “No, it’s exactly as I remember it,” she said.
