Singer DaniLeigh faces criminal charges after allegedly hitting someone under the influence early Tuesday morning in Miami Beach.
The artist, born Danielle Curiel, was arrested for driving while drunk and reportedly striking the alleged victim, who was riding on a moped at the time of the accident. In addition, she was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury and DUI damage to property, according to a police report obtained by TMZ.
Several witnesses at the scene said the 28-year-old was driving a grey Mercedez-Benz at high speed when she hit the motorist and continued driving, USA Today reported.
Police said the victim, transported to a Miami hospital, sustained a spinal fracture and a kidney laceration, per the outlet.
The report also mentioned bystanders alerted DaniLeigh that she was “dragging the moped,” but she never stopped the vehicle. One witness alerted a nearby police officer about the incident and initiated a traffic stop. The “Dominican Mami” artist initially didn’t stop for the police. After multiple attempts, she pulled over, and authorities searched the vehicle.
During the traffic stop, police reported DaniLeigh had slurred responses, smelled like alcohol, and the vehicle’s passenger also appeared intoxicated. However, when authorities questioned the musician, she said she had left a Memorial Day party and denied hitting the victim or drinking alcohol, per USA Today.
According to the report, DaniLeigh had agreed to take sobriety tests and failed. Her blood alcohol concentration level registered at 0.145 and 0.148, which is twice the legal limit in Florida. Police also confirmed the entertainer had an empty bottle of 1942 Don Julio tequila after searching the vehicle.
