Singer Lizzo is celebrated for her confidence, but she isn’t afraid to keep it real about the hard times.

The “Good As Hell” singer revealed she almost quit music in 2017 because she wasn’t happy about the trajectory of her career.

“The day I released ‘Truth Hurts’ was probably one of the darkest days I’ve had ever in my career. I remember thinking, ‘If I quit music now, nobody would notice. This is my best song ever, and nobody cares,'” Lizzo confessed to People.

“I was like, ‘F**k it, I’m done.’ And a lot of people rallied; my producer, my publicist and my family, they were like, ‘Just keep going because this is the darkest before the dawn.'”

Lizzo persisted and now “Truth Hurts” is No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart almost two years after its September 2017 release. The song’s success is attributed to its appearance on Netflix’s Someone Great.

“Who would have thunk?” she continued. “What a moment in a movie can do for an artist is crazy. I had everything else: the hard work, the good music, touring — but then there’s that extra-special magic that nobody really knows what it is that can really change your life.”

The song’s sudden popularity is a full-circle moment for Lizzo.

“Now the song that made me want to quit is the song that everyone’s falling in love with me for, which is such a testament to journeys: Your darkest day turns into your brightest triumph,” she said.

“Truth Hurts” could be Lizzo’s ticket to a Grammy. The Academy told Billboard the single is eligible for a nomination despite its release date.

The news was understandably exciting for Lizzo, who expressed her glee on Twitter.

“Everybody gon have sumn to say but I been bustin my ass for 10 years makin music. Touring-blood sweat tears.. When I dropped truth hurts I was so depressed I almost quit music cuz no one cared- idgaf this my testimony my hard work payin off a reminder to never give up! Thank u!” she wrote in caps. “I know I shouldn’t speak my mind (like I used to) on this app but im just so happy and proud of this moment im having and im gonna savor every minute of it by being true to myself.”
