Oscar Isaac shone on screen in the record breaking, blockbuster return of Star Wars and cemented himself in a universe that many of us love. Lucasfilm and Disney have joined forces with Marvel Comics to give the fans more by way of a book series detailing adventures that take place in the years before the film.

Written by Charles Soule and drawn by Phil Noto, this title is in good hands because they both have successfully worked on Star Wars books before. When Soule spoke to USA Today he said, “…it can feel like the Star Wars universe is so well trodden and so many stories have already been told…But the way the Episode VII galaxy is set up, there are opportunities for new archetypes almost, and the bad guy we’re working with is going to feel fresh and cool.”

The series will explore more of Poe’s story as a cornerstone of The Resistance, feature new locations and worlds in the Star Wars universe, and introduce new characters as well as some of the OGs.

When asked about drawing Dameron for the book, artist Phil Noto said using Isaac’s screen performance was an integral part of his process. “Seeing so much of him on screen, it’s easier in a way to act that part out in my head while I’m drawing: How would Oscar Isaac act in this situation as Poe Dameron?”

Poe Dameron is a fresh face in Star Wars canon, but an important one. These new books will not only give readers more context into the story beautifully developed and directed by JJ Abrams, but a better look at Dameron himself and the role that he plays in the bigger picture. This is a book that’s going to fly off the shelves, make sure you go get a copy. The first issue hits stores in April.
