We’ll be seeing a lot more of up-and-coming British actress Melanie Liburd on this side of the pond (USA), as the actress continues to add projects to her growing slate.

First, as announced on this blog 2 weeks ago, she’ll be featured in Ernest Dickerson’s next film, "Double Play," which begins filming this month in Curacao. She’s part of a cast that includes notables like Lennie James, Colin Salmon, Isaach De Bankolé, Louis Gossett Jr., Saycon Sengbloh and others.

And, second, initially announced a month ago (although I missed the news), she’s been cast as a Red Priestess on the upcoming 6th season of HBO’s hit fantasy/drama series "Game of Thrones." Her casting has led to much speculation on what this could mean for the current Red Priestess, played by Carice Van Houten, in the form of Melisandre. Is Liburd’s Red Priestess simply another one to complement Melisandre, or is she somehow replacing Melisandre (maybe a new direction is being taken with the character).

Feel free to add your own theories to the mix.

But this casting should help raise Liburd’s international profile, given the massive global hit that "Game of Thrones" is.

And finally, announced today, Liburd has booked a series regular role on Season 2 of Syfy’s space opera "Dark Matter," created by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie ("Stargate"), and follows six people who wake up on a derelict spaceship with no memories of who they are or how they got there. No details on Liburd’s character yet.

Season 1 of the series wrapped up in August. Soon after, Syfy renewed it for a 13-episode second season, to run in 2016.

Liburd’s past credits include appearances in "CSI," "Stalker" and "The Grinder."
