There are some people that at least try to rectify their nonsense and then there are others who simply just do not care. Beauty influencer Ghadeer Sultan is among the latter.
Sultan, a professional makeup artist and salon owner from Kuwait, has set her Instagram account ablaze after posting pictures in blackface.
The makeup artist, who typically shares photos of her work, decided to take her talents to a new level on Wednesday.
The beauty influencer posted a video of her mimicking the 2010 remake of Michael Jackson's song "We Are The World." The song, which was released after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, was inspired by Jackson's song that included notable artists such as Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie and Tina Turner.
In Sultan's video posted to Instagram, she is donning a wig and makeup that is countless shades darker than her original skin tone, giving the appearance of blackface. The 2010 version of "We Are The World" plays in the background.
"No matter where you are from or what you believe in, we are all children of this world, and we all share it together equally. Beauty comes in all shapes and colors, so let's love each other and celebrate our unity," she captioned the video.
Almost instantly, she was called out for her foolishness.
"This is the most offensive thing I’ve seen. You can portray togetherness without disrespecting an entire culture. So uneducated, this is beyond unnecessary and unacceptable," one person wrote.
"Was it so hard to hire a black model instead of doing blackface? It’s 2020 and yet the only thing I could see here is the lack of awareness and education on a very sensitive topic. Blackface is racist," another wrote.
Unbothered by her offensive tactics, she posted two more pictures in blackface with Black hair. She even went as far as posting a video clip of a BBC broadcast about her pictures.
"I am not racist…I hate racism," she wrote on the second image. "What I’ve done is only to show what I am capable of… I love you all. Life is meant for living… living with love and passion for everyone without thinking of what they are could really change your life… Think 2020 and live with passion for all peoples."
Clapping back at her once again, people flocked into her comments letting her know that she was completely out of line.
"I don’t know what you are thinking but this is NOT okay. Blackface isn’t a skill that can be acquired to show your 'capability.' Please take time to understand where people are coming from instead of defending yourself right away. This is an act of racism, whether you mean it or not," one commenter said.
Despite receiving a much-needed history lesson on blackface by people in her comments, Sultan stands bold in her ignorance while wearing her "I am not racist" cloak.
