Swag surfin’ to the cure for cancer? This is what the creator of your favorite traveling concert has in mind in the battle against the disease.
The “swag surf” dance, which originated in the 2009 hit “Swag Surfin” by F.L.Y (Fast Life Yungstaz), has remained popular since its inception.
You could even call it a staple for black millennials:

Jason Mowatt, the mastermind behind Trap Karaoke, is also the genius behind this idea. In an interview with Technical.ly Brooklyn, Mowatt compares the plan to other events that bring us together to help fight and bring awareness to these illnesses.
“When I look at the social good space, you see the AIDS Walk and the Susan G. Komen 5K and you ask like, ‘What does a walk have to do with AIDS or breast cancer?’ But really it’s just an event that builds community and friendships. When I look at my generation I’m like, ‘What would we do?’ We might not do a 5K or an ice bucket challenge but we could do a swag surf.”
Mowatt’s plan is to organize swag-surfing at music festivals and concerts to get people to sign up to become bone marrow donors – bringing thousands of people together in that moment, locked in arms for a great cause. Mowatt said the idea comes from one of his friend’s nieces dying from leukemia. She didn’t get a bone marrow match. As she was both Latina and black, it was hard to find a match.
He hopes to increase the amount of about 560,000 people on the bone marrow registry to 1 million.
