Following her tirade against Netflix, Mo’Nique isn’t done calling out Hollywood’s elite.
The comedian released audio clips of a discussion she had with Tyler Perry and her husband Sydney Hicks to Rolling Out, and it is juicy.
In the audio, Mo’Nique and Hicks take Perry to task for not fighting for her.
“Madea [would] make Tyler’s ass step his ass up. I’m talking to Madea right now. Madea, I need you to pull Tyler’s ass in the back and say, ‘Baby, you watching this sister and her family starve. You’re watching it. What do you want me to do? Listen, don’t you play with that baby like that,” she said, referring to Perry's famous black grandma persona.
Perry responded with a promise that he would get Mo her money.
“This is Tyler Perry talking. I’m gonna call and find out what money is coming in from Precious, and I’m going to send that to you. I’m going to send that over to you. Whatever it is, I’m gonna send it to you,” he replied.
Perry also admitted Mo'Nique was unfairly seen as "difficult" in Hollywood, but when the couple asked him to speak out against the negativity, he was reluctant. When they brought up Oprah potentially speaking out in support of the comedian, Perry said he couldn't speak for her.
“I spent too much time here. I thought this would be a quick call that I could just call and say how I felt,” he said. He went on to suggest Mo'Nique find a movie role so she could generate “buzz” and “all of this could go away.”
Monique promptly reminded Perry that he called her, and by the time the audio cut off, it was clear nothing was resolved.
So far, none of the involved parties have mentioned the audio and it is unclear when the call occurred.
