It needs to catch up with the times; it has much more progress to make…. I think Hollywood is pulling it off quite well for young black actors. There’s a lot of opportunities over in the US.”

Words from Morgan Freeman, a man seemingly never afraid to speak his mind, talking to press during the UK premiere of The Dark Knight Rises.

Although I'm sure some will argue with Mr Freeman's last sentence – the Hollywood is "pulling it off quite well for young black actors," and that there are "a lot of opportunities" for young black actors in the USA.

Maybe more-so than in the UK, but, really, I could use his words regarding black actors in the UK and say pretty much the same thing about black actors in the USA: Hollywood itself has "more work to do on that front. It needs to catch up with the times; it has much more progress to make."

And then of course there are those who lament the fact that roles for African Americans characters sometimes go to Black British actors – the UK invasion as I've heard some refer to it as.

But really, there's plenty of work to be done here in the USA as well as in the UK, and other parts of the world where people of African decent aren't in the majority – whether in terms of population, or in positions of authority and power.
