A California mom who lied about her white son’s race and paid thousands of dollars to boost his ACT scores has been sentenced to three weeks in prison.

Buzzfeed News reported Marjorie Klapper, one of the dozens involved in the high-profile college admissions scandal, was sentenced to three weeks behind bars. She received one year of supervised release and was ordered to complete 250 hours of community service and pay a $9,500 fine.

The Menlo Park mother, who is the latest person to be sentenced, not only falsely claimed her son was Black and Latino, but that he was also a first-generation college student. Klapper was found guilty of paying $15,000 to alter her son’s ACT scores, NewsOne reported

In May, she pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.

Prosecutors claim the California mother committed fraudulent activity over the course of three years for both of her sons while changing their college admission test scores.

For her youngest son, Klapper attempted to secure his golden ticket for college by lying on his application and claiming he was Black, Latino and a first-generation college student.

“She purposefully sought to portray her son as a minority, and the child of parents who did not attend college, despite the fact that he was neither, because she thought that lie would further bolster his college prospects,” prosecutors detailed in a sentencing document. “She thereby increased the likelihood that her fraud would come at the expense of an actual minority candidate, or an applicant who was actually the first in his or her family to attend college.”

U.S. Attorney Andrew E. Lelling added he believes Klapper’s sentence is not enough for what she committed.

“Ms. Klapper thereby not only corrupted the standardized testing system, but also specifically victimized the real minority applicants already fighting for admission to elite schools,” Lelling said.

More than 50 coaches, parents and other conspirators, including actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin were involved in the college admissions scandal that was unearthed by federal investigators in March. Huffman was sentenced to only 14 days in prison, while Loughlin still awaits her sentencing.
