A reminder for our readers in New York…
After making its USA premiere at the African Diaspora International Film Festival in November, it was acquired by ArtMattan Productions soon thereafter, and will now begin its USA theatrical run, right here in New York City at the Film Forum.
Moussa Touré's La Pirogue will open tomorrow, Wednesday, January 23, and will run through Tuesday, February 5, at Film Forum – a 2-week run; so plenty of time for you to make an effort to see it.
The film made its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last year, and given how well it was received by critics, and the recent success acclaimed Sub-Saharan African films have enjoyed at that festival, like Mahamat-Saleh Haroun's Cannes Grand Jury Prize-winning film, Un homme qui crie (A Screaming Man), which was picked up 2 or 3 weeks after the festival closed, I was a little surprised to see La Pirogue go as long as it did without an acquisition.
But I'm glad that it'll see some USA distribution, thanks to ArtMattan; we'll alert you of future screenings as they are announced.
If you'd like to book the film, interested parties are instructed to contact ArtMattan Films at [email protected] or call (212) 864-1760.
The rest of you in NYC, see it!
