MSNBC's Ari Melber made a name for himself weaving the best rap lyrics into his political commentary.
Recently, the hip-hop enthusiast attracted a slew of new fans when an April 25 clip of him lambasting President Donald Trump's administration in his signature style went viral. In the short clip from "The Beat with Ari," Melber invokes rapper Gucci Mane's 2017 hit "No Smoke" to chip away at Trump's tough guy persona. The president and members of his administration are facing a storm of subpoenas as Congress prepares to conduct investigations into the Mueller report.
Congressional oversight was one of the promises Democrats made during the 2018 Midterms. By all accounts, it seems the lawmakers will hold the president and the administration accountable for alleged misconduct. As Melber puts it, Trump may not want “all the smoke’” coming his way.
"So I do remember discussing Erskine Bowles telling Mitt Romney to stop quoting his budget plan, and I likened it to Three 6 Mafia saying, 'Keep my name out your mouth,' as a guest covering [the] 2012 [election]. And I do remember that being an early time where there was some interest afterward."
Rappers such as 50 Cent and figures who are prominent in the culture such as Breakfast Club host Charlamagne Tha God are frequent guests on the pundit's segment. Melber's take on politics continues to shake up the often stuffy cable news political scene.
