A Black-owned and family-operated brewery will open its first location in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood in late November.
According to NBC Chicago, the owners of Turner Haus Brewery shared their excitement about opening a much-needed establishment in their community.
“We’re very excited to be an option for people to gather, socialize and drink in our neighborhood,” co-founder Steven Turner told the outlet.
The brewery will open on Nov. 30 in the exact location as Sip and Savor Coffeehouse. The two establishments will share a space.

Turner and his family spent 10 years planning to open the brewery, and they craft all their products offsite.
Co-founder Blair Aikens said their beers are named after family members to honor the women who paved the way for them.
“We named all of our beers after a matriarch in our families, and we really think about who they were as a person as we’re coming up with a recipe to honor them, so we really put that into the ingredients,” she told NBC Chicago.
According to Turner, one of the beers on the menu is named after their grandmother Helen.
“One of the things we have in our slogan is that these are people that poured into us and now we pour pints of them,” he said.
Turner hopes to encourage more aspiring Black business owners to launch breweries in their communities.
“I look at it as an opportunity because at that point it’s an opportunity for us to get into this community, educate them not only who were are, but beer and craft beer in itself,” he said.
Turner Haus Brewery will be open four days a week, from Thursday through Sunday. Those who plan to visit can choose various beers from its menu, including a grapefruit lager, per NBC Chicago.
“We hope that inspires other people to come into this area as well and do what we’re doing, to give people more options in Bronzeville to hang out and entertain,” Turner said.
