Last I wrote about this, late in May, it was being shopped around by sales and distribution company IM Global at the Cannes film market, hoping to secure USA and international deals. 

No word on what came of that outing yet, but I'm digging for more info, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, thanks to the folks at ComingSoon.net, we have an official synopsis for the project, as well as who else is starring in it.

First announced on this site in early February… Essence Atkins and Marlon Wayans are starring in the indie comedy/spoof (tentatively titled) Smart Ass, which is decribed as a spoof of all those found-footage flicks that have been released in recent years.

Marlon Wayans is actually not directing it solo, but is CO-directing with Mike Tiddes (nothing on his IMDB resume); but it should be his feature film directorial debut – a spoof that's expected to be R-rated.

So what's it about? Here's the official synop:

From the creators of Scary Movie comes another hilarious horror spoof, a parody of the Paranormal Activity franchise. When newlyweds Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins) move into their dream house, they quickly find they’re not alone. But it’s not the house that’s haunted, but his wife that is possessed with spirits – or as Malcolm calls it – “relationship baggage.” Malcolm hires everyone from a priest to modern day ghost busters to rid her of the demon, determined not to let the evil spirit ruin his marriage… or his sex life for that matter.

The comedy was written by both Wayans and Rick Alvarez, who has produced a number of past Wayans family flicks.

Also of note, Cedric The Entertainer, Robin Thede and Affion Crockett are all reportedly in the film's cast as well, although no word on who each is playing.

The film has apparently already been shot, and is currently in post-production, so I'm betting that I'll find a clip, photo, or even a trailer soon.

 
IM Global president of international sales Jonathan Deckter and the team expect a torrent of interest on a roster that includes Gold Circle’s supernatural thriller The Possession Of Michael King from first-time director David Jung and the thriller Chained from the producers of the Saw franchise starring Ryan Phillipe.
 
Marlon Wayans co-directed Untitled Found Footage Comedy with Mike Tiddes and the R-rated spoof is expected to find a US home within days.

The Wayans have certainly done well with these spoofs, from Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, to the Scary Movie franchise, to, most recently, Dance Flick, which both Wayans and Atkins worked on.

They certainly weren't all box office hits, but overall, they've done fairly well; some even cracking the $100 million mark.

And I guess it was only a matter of time before those found-footage flicks were parodied.
