Nzingha Stewart has been hired to write the script for Walt Disney Pictures' remake of the 1984 Garry Marshall comedy The Flamingo Kid, with Brett Ratner and Michael Phillips producing.

Matt Dillon starred in the original The Flamingo Kid, along with Richard Crenna, Hector Elizondo and Janet Jones – the coming-of-age movie about a working class boy who takes a summer job at a beach resort and learns valuable life lessons.

Michael Phillips (who's a producer on the remake) also produced the first film by the way; before that, he produced (along with his wife Julia PhillipsThe Sting, Taxi Driver, as well as Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Not a bad-looking resume there, huh?

Nzingha, who, as some of you may recall, was original set to direct For Colored Girls… (from her own script) before Tyler Perry took it over, was recently selected as a finalists for the 2012 Disney's ABC Talent Development & Diversity initiative – the 2012-14 ABC DGA Directing Program.

Congrats Nzingha!
