Offset is setting the record straight on the longtime rumors surrounding his connection to Quavo and Takeoff.
Speaking with Variety, Offset said he is not Quavo’s cousin, but Quavo is Takeoff’s uncle.
While he is not biologically related to Quavo and Takeoff, Offset still has a deep relationship with his fellow Migos members. The Migos trio, who have been hanging out since their elementary school days, rehearsed in the basement of Quavo’s house as children and released their first mixtape in 2011. A year later, Quavo and his crew released their viral hit “Bando.”
Offset first earned recognition as a dancer when he was a child who performed in Whitney Houston’s videos.
“I started off as a child doing this s**t on accident,” Offset told Variety. “My mama pulled up like, ‘Hey, when the music plays, dance!’ I’m like 8 years old and I get picked to be in a Whitney video. That’s big. So that be a reminder: I always think of my past to remind myself, ‘This s**t is gonna be fine.’ That’s how I stay in pocket. That’s how I know I’m going to be great.”
As Blavity previously reported, the Migos faced tragedy in 2022 when Takeoff was shot and killed at a private event in Houston. Quavo and Offset, who spent time apart after the group split earlier that year, came together in Atlanta for Takeoff’s funeral.
Speaking with Variety, Offset said he’s still in shock after losing his childhood friend.
“Talking about Take is hard, man . . . That’s why I don’t, to be honest,” he said. “That s**t hurts. Like, it’s gonna put me in a mood, and I don’t want to get in that mood. Some things I don’t never tell nobody. He’s not here. That s**t feels fake, bro . . . I get through my day thinking it’s fake. And I don’t say nothing to nobody about it.”
