A Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, high school senior is set to make history as the first woman to participate in NBA legend Allen Iverson's showcase game series, Fox 29 reports. 

Diamond Johnson, a student at a South Philadelphia catholic high school, received an unexpected invitation to play in the fourth annual Iverson Classic 24k Showcase in April.

On Monday, the 44-year-old tweeted a video talking to Johnson and her teammates, sharing some basketball wisdom.

“I love y'all. Be safe and be careful out there. Be tough in that gym and be tough outside of it,” Iverson told the players.

Shortly after chatting with the former Philadelphia 76ers player, Johnson received a call from Iverson's business partner wanting to extend an offer to play in the historically all-men classic.

"We wanted to extend an invitation to you for you to be the first woman ever to be a part of the 24K showcase," Iverson's business partner said. 

The young basketball star will be the first woman to integrate the game, according to Iverson's business partner.

But this won't be her first time being recognized for her talents on the court. She was previously selected as the MVP of the Philadelphia Catholic League and was ranked No. 14 by ESPN for the class of 2020.

In 2019, she was named the Gatorade Pennsylvania Girls Basketball Player of the year. A high school coach shared the community's sentiments of her skillset, calling her "unstoppable."

“She’s small and quick, she’s got a deadly floater and she can shoot from well behind the line. She changes the entire dynamic of that team,” head coach at West Catholic High Beulah Osueke said. 

This year's showcase, which is a game played by top-ranked players, “will be played in memory of Kobe and Gianna Bryant.” The decision to dedicate the classic in their honor was made by Iverson who had a close relationship with Bryant.

The game will also include an additional quarter time of playing. At the conclusion of the four quarters, the clock will stop and both teams will play until one reaches the target score which will add an additional 24 points to the leading team's total. The number 24 was one of the jersey numbers worn by Bryant while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. 

Bryant and his daughter were both trailblazers on the court before their tragic passings on January 26 during a helicopter crash, as Blavity previously reported.

Gianna, who was a star player on Bryant's basketball team at the Mamba Sports Academy, had aspirations to play at The University of Connecticut and then transition into the WNBA.

The series of events for the showcase will include a dunk contest, 3-point shootout, one-on-ones and matchups, according to Clutch Points.
