Michael Rainey Jr., a star actor on Power and Power Book II: Ghost, shared a terrifying video of what he said is an unwarranted police encounter that occurred while he was driving.
The undated video shows an officer with his hand on his gun as he demands answers from Rainey Jr., who is sitting inside of a car.
“This guy was about to shoot me I swear that camera saved my life. Look what he does as soon as he looks into the lens. Someone please send me his precinct or whatever if you know. These power-tripping ass police need they badge taken. Unlawful traffic stop,” Rainey Jr. said.
“Didn’t even pull me over. Didn’t tell me what I was being pulled over for. Just came to whip yelling and sh*t with his hand on his gun. This guy also said stop reaching while I was looking for my license, I guess he was tryna come up with a reason to shoot me,” he added.
Rainey Jr. later said that he began filming the interaction and that it may have saved his life.
In another video shared on Instagram, he said that any Black person driving a nice car will have to contend with officers unfairly stopping them.
“You can’t be Black in the world with a nice car. That’s why we gotta keep being Black and keep getting nice cars on this mother f**ker,” he said.
He didn't share any information about the police stop nor what happened after the filming stopped. But he noted that the officer who pulled him over never gave a reason for the stop. The actor has since deleted the videos.
When the video was reposted by The Shaderoom, 50 Cent commented, “Dam [facepalm emoji] this is crazy.”
The show Power Book II: Ghost recently won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Drama Series.
