A 19-year-old pregnant Guatemalan died climbing a U.S.- Mexico border wall under President Donald Trump's administration.

Miriam Stephany Girón Luna, a heavily pregnant young woman who risked her life to come to the U.S., the BBC reported.

Last Saturday, Girón Luna climbed the steel mesh barrier near El Paso, Texas, where she fell and suffered fatal injuries. She was taken to the hospital where doctors tried to deliver her baby via an emergency C-section, but unfortunately, the baby did not survive.

On Tuesday, Girón Luna passed away after being treated for a cerebral hemorrhage, liver and kidney lacerations, and a pelvis fracture, the BBC reports.

"Tragically, the mother and the child died from their injuries from the fall," U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) acting commissioner Mark Morgan told reporters, according to Fox News.

She was said to be traveling with a 26-year-old man, presumed to be Girón Luna's partner, according to the BBC. The man was the one who managed to contact CBP agents who then called an ambulance for Girón Luna.

CBP's El Paso Sector Chief Gloria Chavez expressed her condolences for Girón Luna's death, however, she blamed her death on "human smugglers" without mentioning Trump.

"Despite the best efforts of our Border Patrol agents and medical professionals, sadly more lives have perished at the hands of human smugglers," El Paso Sector Chief Gloria Chavez said. "Someone in Mexico guided this 8 month pregnant woman from Guatemala to this section of the border and encouraged her and helped her climb the steel mesh border barrier. We will engage our law enforcement partners in Mexico to find those responsible for placing these lives in danger."

Although there was already a wall at the border near El Paso, it could not be stressed enough that Trump, who infamously called undocumented immigrants rapists and murders, is a champion of policies which prevent the entry of immigrants from Mexico.

This is not the first time an undocumented immigrant has died under CBP watch in Texas.

As Blavity previously reported, that a 41-year-old migrant passed away on Christmas Day last year while under CBP's custody.

The only response Trump has made in regard to the border wall is that he believes that it would protect the U.S. from the coronavirus, USA Today reports.
