“The First Ever Halal Comedy/Action Feature Film of it’s kind!“
That’s the proclamation made by the man behind the project, actor/comedian Omar Regan (an African American Muslim man himself), who emphasizes that his mission is to tell stories by Muslims that everyone can enjoy, and in embarking on his first production under that umbrella, with a feature film titled American Sharia.
“There are over 1.6 billion Muslims around the world, but we are often only being told from one story… In this film we are breaking barriers, demystifying Islamic perspective and busting myths that are so prevalent in popular media,” says Regan, who successfully raised over $120,000 via Kickstarter, to help finance the project – a crowdfunding campaign that just ended this morning!
“The actual budget for the film is $250,000, if we can go over our pledge goal to meet the actual budget we can complete the project,” he adds. And they most certainly went over their $115,000 goal, to raise $122,102. So clearly, there’s a lot of support for this independently-produced project.
The film stars Regan and Baba Ali, and is directed by Murah Amayreh.
No ETA yet; until then, watch a trailer for the film, which is within the Kickstarter video pitch below, for a glimpse at what the expect in this buddy cop dramedy. And if Regan’s act reminds you of Chris Tucker in the Rush Hour franchise of movies, you should know that, he doubled for Chris Tucker in Rush Hour 2:
