If you're familiar with everything that's going on in the protesting world right now, you've probably heard of Takiyah Thompson. Thompson is a 22-year-old college student who helped to tear down a Confederate monument by tying a rope around the neck of the statue and pulling it down. She has since been arrested and released on bail and faces felony charges.  She could face 25 months and 41 months in prison for each felony charge.

That's right, she could become a convicted felon because of this country's inability to detach itself from its rugged and disgusting past.

Now, it seems that protestors are doing what they can to fight her arrest and charges that are inherently viewed as unjust. The Fader reports that a large crowd of protesters gathered in front of the Sheriff's office in Durham, North Carolina Thursday morning. Their goal? To get the charges against Thompson dropped.

The protest was seemingly being led by Lamont Lilly, a Durham resident and activist. The group seemed to chant "We are the people coming for justice. We are the small axe, coming to cut you." Three people have even turned themselves in connection to the Confederate statue that Thompson was arrested for. Check out some tweets from protesters in the midst of everything and see for yourself.

While the story is still developing, there will undoubtedly be more to report. However, for now, we wish these protesters the best with safety and love. Keep fighting for what is right!
