Rapper Redman is expanding his repertoire and adding "director" to his set of skills, by being tapped for the in-house music video and commercials director job with Benetone Films – a production company based in Bangkok, Thailand, recognized, as their website states, as the No. 1 Foreign Production Service Company in Thailand for 5 years in a row (2008 to 2012) by Thailand Film Office, having produced over 600 commercials and over 80 feature films.
They are also in the music video business, counting Beyonce, Enrique Iglesias and Lil Wayne as past clients.
In 2011, Benetone Films established a production house in Los Angeles, becoming the first Thailand film production company to enter the US Indie Film market.
Details on what directing projects Redman (real name Reggie Noble) will tackle first haven’t been announced yet.
“Redman’s genius and illustrious knack for creativity combined with our passion for production is undoubtedly going to result in an exciting, promising and fruitful future for all,” said Rachvin Narula, CEO of Benetone Films, to Variety, who broke the news on Redman’s appointment.
It may not be universally-known, but the multi-hyphenate is involved in a variety of industries beyond music. For example, he’s an actor with credits going back to 1998; and, earlier this year, he branched into the business of fashion, launching a line of casual wear called Mighty Healthy. He’s also produced 2 feature films, and contributed to the soundtracks of various films and TV shows.
He has no director credits at this time, so with his signing up to become in-house director for Benetone Films, he’s entering new territory, and we’ll likely be talking about his work in years to come, assuming he has aspirations to push beyond directing music videos and commercials, and into feature film directing.
