nullActor/screenwriter/director Reggie Gaskins' second feature film, The Lying Truth (is it just me or doesn't that sound like the title for an Oscar Micheaux film?) will make its first limited threatical run, starting on July 27 at the Nova Cinemas in Fort Pierce, FL

The plan is that, of course, if the film does well, it will expand into other markets after its intial run.

The film, which was previously titled The Lawyer, The Thug and the Princess, played last year at the Pan Afrcian Film Festival and the Hayti Heritage Film Festival where it won both the Best Picture and the Audience Choice Favorite Awards.

According to the descprition of the film, it deals with a "famous rapper accused of raping a video vixen during the taping of his new music video. The rapper says he had consensual sex with the video vixen and that she's lying in efforts to extort him for money. The video vixen vehemently denies his claim and says that she was raped. A renowned defense attorney is hired to unravel the lies to set his client free."

But Gaskins, whose first feature – Restraining Order with Robin Givens – is currently playing on Bounce TV, says that he had a higher goal in making the film.

"I wanted to write a story that shed light on a serious subject matter (rape) within the hip hop world to encourage those who are victims to come forward so that justice can be served. Yet at the same time I wanted to talk about the impact of false claims of rape and how such false claims make it that much harder for credible rape claims to be taken seriously."
